Methylated Basic Amino Acids in Serum of the Experimentally Induced Hyper- and Hypothyroid Rats

Abstract
Abstract-Free methylated basic amino acids in serum of rats were derivatized with PITC reagents and were separated by reverse-phase HPLC. Quantitation was achieved by post column UV absorbance at 254 nm. The method was applied to the quantitation analysis of MMA and TML level in serum of hypo-, hyperthyroid and normal rats.
The concentration of MMA, DMA and TML in serum of normal rats were 3.85, 4.84 and 1.53 ¥ìM, respectively. In the case of hyperthyroid rats, each concentration was increase about 2-4 times than that of normal rats. Whereas, in the case of hypothyroid rats, each concentration was decreased about 0.44-0.92 times than that of normal rats.
